What shouldn't be in my title?

Product category​

Don't include your product's category in its title. Listing a category is redundant, since it usually already appears alongside your product title.

Examples:

  • ❌ Nostalgia Stream Deck Icons
  • ✔️ Nostalgia
  • ❌ Zoom Plugin
  • ✔️ Zoom
  • ❌ ReaGate VST
  • ✔️ ReaGate

Your contributor name​

Do not include your username, nickname, or brand name in product titles.

Examples:

  • ❌ ReaEQ by Reaper
  • ✔️ ReaEQ
  • ❌ iCUE (Corsair)
  • ✔️ iCUE
  • ❌ Blade – SideshowFX
  • ✔️ Blade
  • ❌ Elgato's Memory Game
  • ✔️ Memory Game

Special exceptions can be made when the product title is also the brand name.

Examples:

  • ✔️ Voicemod (VST by Voicemod S.L.)
  • ✔️ Streamlabs (Plugin by Streamlabs)
  • ✔️ Lumia Stream (Plugin by Lumia Stream)

Special characters and emojis​

Accepted special characters include: Hyphens and dashes (-, –, —), pluses (+), apostrophes ('), commas (,), colons (:), exclamation points (!), parentheses, and periods (.).

All other special characters are not allowed. Do not use emojis in your product title.

Some specific rules:

  • Do not use plus (+) to mean "and"
  • Do not use exclamation points (!) for emphasis, only stylization.
  • Limit of one exclamation point (!) per title

Intellectual property​

Don't use protected third-party material such as trademarks, copyrighted works, or patented ideas in your title without permission.

If you do have permission, be ready to provide proof of authorization to Marketplace staff.

Examples:

  • ❌ Nintendo Classics

Pricing terminology​

Do not mention price in your product title. This includes any reference to sales or discounts.

Examples:

  • ❌ Free
  • ❌ 4.99 USD
  • ❌ Half-Off
  • ❌ Cheap
  • ❌ Affordable
  • ❌ Low Price
  • ❌ Great Value
  • ❌ Save 5 Percent
  • ❌ Buy One Get 5
  • ❌ 10 for Price of 1

Promotional and subjective words​

Do not use promotional phrases. These are cliché marketing terms that don't offer any real value — and are often difficult (or impossible) to verify.

Examples:

  • ❌ Top Quality
  • ❌ Hot Item
  • ❌ Best Seller
  • ❌ Acclaimed
  • ❌ 5-Star Rating
  • ❌ Great Buy

Do not use subjective words. These adjectives describe your opinion, not the product itself.

  • ❌ Beautiful
  • ❌ Brilliant
  • ❌ Awesome
  • ❌ Best
  • ❌ Fascinating
